Wash all your vegetables for the salad and shake off excess water. Make sure to wash your lettuce well between leaves because dirt tends to hide well. Set up your cutting area with all your supplies including a cutting board, chef knife and a paring knife as well as a bag for scraps and garbage. Things go faster when you are organized!

If you have a compost this would be a great time to save any discarded pieces for your garden. I’ve decided to start a mini compost for my raised garden bed rather than tossing all this potentially great fertilizer in the trash! Did you know that coffee grounds are great for the garden too? You can see more of that in our Garden Tour!

We have been purchasing living lettuce a lot recently, living lettuce is sold with roots on it, as a result, helps to keep it fresh longer. I have been meaning to try to plant one and see what happens but keep forgetting to hahaha when I do give it a go I will be sure to let you know how it goes!

Cheese It!

Cube up 1/4 block of marble cheese then add it to the salad bowl.

Cube cheese into bite size pieces. If making salad for next day you can choose to leave cheese out until ready to serve.

This recipe is a Summer favourite at our house. My husband cannot tolerate onions, so I substitute chives and it works just fine.
We like a simple vinaigrette dressing made with olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and dashes of salt and pepper.

Hi Jenn, love your recipe! I am a salad person so I am definitely saving this one! What a great idea with celery. I actually don’t buy it that much as I don’t know what to do with it 🙂 As for the dressing, which one goes well with this salad? I would probably keep it simple and fresh with some lemon juice and olive oil. What do you think?
